One
of the great Landscape Gardeners of all time was a Windermere
man called Thomas Mawson, who was responsible for the layout
of many great Lakeland gardens, including Lindeth Fell.
The gardens at Lindeth Fell are especially beautiful in Spring
and early Summer, with magnificent displays of azaleas and rhododendrons,
but are beautiful in all seasons with colourful trees, shrubs
and herbaceous borders.
Lawns are laid for bowling, croquet, pitch and putt and putting.
In a quiet corner a small Lake is a pleasant retreat and a haunt
for wild life.
Lindeth Fell is a member of the National Garden Scheme and opens
its Gardens to the public for one day in May every year.
Rhododendrons and azaleas must be considered amongst the aristocrats
of the plant world, because of their range of bloom and colours.
Here at Lindeth Fell we are fortunate in having a wide range
of varieties including a magnificent clump of 'Val d'Aulnay'
and 'Chevalier Felix de Sauvage' both of which flower heavily
every year.
A most attractive feature of the garden at Lindeth Fell is the
wide range of colour when the rhododendrons are in bloom, pink,
blue, purple, white cream and all the yellows.
